| Orange
County in Southern California purchased an Electric
School Bus from A-Z Bus sales through a special grant program
provided by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The bus was expensive, but it will actually save money in the long
run because the AC motor is capable of going 100,000 miles or 10 years
without major service. Additionally, the disc brake life is extended
due to the slowing action of the motor when it is driven. |

| A highly
efficient gas engine combined with an advanced electric motor deliver
the power to drive Prius. Depending on the driving conditions, one
or both are used to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize emissions.
Prius never
needs to be plugged in because the exclusive Toyota Hybrid System
(THS) diverts output from the generator to recharge the batteries
whenever they are low. A regenerative braking system even captures
excess energy when the driver slows down and engages the brakes.
The recovered energy is then used to recharge the batteries.
